TOBIN, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, was appointed by Dublin City Council in 2017 to provide Civil and Structural Engineering, PSDP, Quantity Surveying, Fire Consultant, Traffic and Environmental Services from Stage (i) to Stage (v) to develop the design for the amalgamation of 7 depots spread throughout Dublin City to one central location at Ballymun.
Office space was also provided for approximately 150 employees, with vehicular space for 132 council vehicles and up to 200 staff cars between a multi-storey car park and specific garages for larger vehicles. Purpose-built workshops for vehicles and signage was constructed, along with an onsite welding facility and waste management facilities. The project design also provided a public Civic Amenity Facility which was delivered as a separate entity with a separate entrance point, providing waste storage and handling facilities for recyclable waste, green waste, bulky waste and priority household hazardous wastes.
As the depot is an amalgamation of multiple DCC depots to a single location, the project involved the design of 3 no. junctions to TII standards including upgrading of the existing 3-arm signalised junction at IKEA to a 4-arm junction, design of a new 3-arm signalised junction on St. Margaret’s Road to the site taking cognisance of the future plans for a 4th arm and a single priority junction on the R104.
