Project Ireland 2040 has Active Travel at its core. In recent years, facilities for the promotion of Physical Activity is one of the criteria for the justification of road schemes. We have a long history of delivery of this sort of scheme with our team involved in multiple designs which incorporate cycle lanes, footpaths and sustainable transport modes. Over the years these have included Clonmel cycle lanes and several other road schemes where active travel elements were included such as R498 Latteragh. Our Operations Director, John O’Flaherty has a particular interest in sustainable transport and completed his Masters’ Thesis on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans in 2019. He has also managed the design and construction of multiple Active and Smarter Travel Schemes since their emergence in 2009. The TOBIN Roads and Transportation team are currently delivering Active Travel Schemes across the country including:
- Donegal Active Travel schemes in Ballyshannon, Donegal Town, Mountcharles and Glencolumbcille
- Galway Active Travel schemes in Athenry, Oranmore, Loughrea and Clarinbridge
- Incorporating a shared pedestrian/cycleway on the realignment of the N70 in Waterville, Co. Kerry
- Numerous cycle and pedestrian improvements on the N81 Tallaght Bypass
- Cycle and footpath provision on the Granary Road in Edenderry and the Edenderry Inner Relief Road
