This project consisted of the restoration and refurbishment of an existing four-storey twentieth century Masonry schoolhouse building into four self-contained apartments on each of the 4 floor levels.
This protected structure had many structural features, which were to be retained in-situ including masonry walls. Timber staircases, floor joists and steel beams, roof rafters and steel trusses. In addition, internal finishes were also to be retained including timber doors, skirting boards, architraves, fireplaces, floor tiles, floorboards, sash windows and some feature ceilings. Careful consideration and coordination between all members of the design team and authorities were required in order to ensure that existing features remain in situ and undisturbed for the duration of the works. The scheme also included a below ground level car park and plant room next to the existing building.
