As part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, TOBIN in the role of contractor’s designer, have carried out watermain rehabilitation designs for more than 1,000km of pipeline since 2017. In our designs, we have incorporated where possible, materials such as HDPE pipelines and techniques such as Horizontal Directional Drilling and Pipe Bursting to provide a sustainable product to the end user.
We also interface with multiple stakeholders, providing design solutions around constraints associated with Archaeological, Environmental & landowners requirements.
A major aspect of our continuing work is hydraulic modelling of water distribution networks to identify ways of optimising pressure management within the networks through the creation of pressure management areas, resulting in significant water savings and reductions in leakage.
Models vary in size and complexity from Rural areas to Large towns(Tralee, Mallow, Portlaoise) to Cities (Cork, Kilkenny).
All of our work is focused on helping reduce the national water leakage rate from 46% (2018) to 38%(2021). With a forecast to reach the national leakage target of 25%(2030).
As recognition of the work carried out on Major Networks and the gains that have been realised, in 2022 TOBIN was shortlisted for the Environmental Sustainability in the Built Environment Award by ACEI.
