TOBIN was appointed as Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors by Clare County Council for the development of an Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience Centre in Mountshannon, Co. Clare.
The project involves various aspects including the following the refurbishment and repurposing of the Old Rectory Building at Mountshannon, Co. Clare to provide an initial Visitor Experience Centre incorporating a new Visitor Experience within the existing building and proposed extension, a new Café at the first-floor level, landscaped gardens and a link to Aistear Park and Public Realm works linking to the existing Harbour.
Once completed in 2024, the visitor centre building will comprise a reception area, three exhibition areas interpreting stories from Mount Shannon and the island of Inis Cealtra, as well as a revitalised rectory garden. Boat trips will initially focus on bringing visitors around the island, while trips to the island are part of the plans for the overall experience.
Phase 2 will include the provision of a new Visitor Experience Centre on the site of the Old Rectory incorporating a new Visitor Building, main street car parking, a new Mooring Point on Inis Cealtra, Island walkways and exhibition pods and upgrade works to the Mainland Harbour.
