Sensory Room
Sensory Room forms a crucial cog in Shannon Airport’s Customer Care Programme.
TOBIN Consulting Engineers is very proud of the role we played in helping to deliver Europe’s first airport Sensory Room. This innovative project, developed for children and adults with neurodevelopmental challenges, includes an aquatic bubble tube, colour changing LEDs and an undulated wavy wall. TOBIN Consulting Engineers undertook the following roles in the completion of this landmark project: Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Structural Design and PSDP.
Located in the airport’s departure lounge, this Sensory Room forms a crucial cog in the broader Customer Care Programme that is at the forefront of Shannon Airport’s operations. Customers who need additional support can now avail of official caps and wristbands to ensure that they are immediately identified by staff and receive the special treatment they deserve, which now includes being brought to the new Sensory Room.
Speaking at the launch of this development, Niall Maloney, Director of Operations at Shannon Airport, urged other Irish and international airports to get on board to offer this service: “I’m both delighted and proud that an Irish airport, Shannon Airport, is the first to introduce a sensory room in Europe. It’s in keeping with Shannon’s special reputation for looking after its passengers,” he said.
