In 2017, TOBIN Consulting Engineers proudly accepted that year’s Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) Innovation Award for their work on the National Indoor Arena project. The ACEI Innovation Award is conferred for a project judged to be significant in the ‘Irish Context’, and being essentially the work of an Irish practice. For the purposes of this award, an innovation should include a significant application and/or development of a new concept in engineering design or in the design process of a completed project, primarily undertaken for the first time on a project in Ireland.
The National Indoor Arena (NIA) is a multi-purpose, multi-functional, state-of-the-art facility that houses three individual indoor arenas, namely; the National Indoor Training Centre (NITC), the National Gymnastics Training Centre (NGTC) and the National Indoor Athletics Training Centre (NIATC). This ‘first-of-a-kind’ facility in Ireland is based within the 520-acre National Sports Campus (NSC) site in Abbotstown, North Dublin. Designed for “a complete playing experience”, the level of innovation within the NIA’s design, build and current functional operation is unrivaled in Ireland.
This ACEI Innovation Award holds particular significance within TOBIN Consulting Engineers as Innovation is one of our five Core Values. At TOBIN, we love the creativity that delivers a clever design or a new way of meeting a challenge. We have succeeded in building an environment where Innovation is an integral part of the way we do business. This essentially means that anyone at any level within TOBIN is allowed the time and space to be creative, to initiate any innovation, and to test their ideas. We believe the constant search to develop new ways of providing an improved, high quality service is the pulse of a vibrant international company.
We were presented with our award at the ACEI Awards Dinner, held in the Shelbourne Hotel on 31st March 2017. TOBIN’s Brian Downes and Michael McDonnell were accompanied by David Conway (Director of National Sports Campus) in receiving our award from ACEI President, Richard Crowe.
