TOBIN, a large multi-disciplinary (engineering, environmental, planning) consultancy practice operating in Ireland since 1952, is currently looking to recruit an experienced Project Hydrogeologist to join our busy and growing team in any of our offices – Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Sligo or Castlebar.

This is a full-time role, with a hybrid working options.

Core Competency:

The position of Project Hydrogeologist within TOBIN requires a minimum Level 8 Honours Degree qualification in Science (or equivalent qualification appropriate to the tasks assigned) and in general the title may apply to candidates that have up to between 4-10 years’ experience depending on the knowledge and skills gained over the course of their career to date. Ideally, Project Hydrogeologists at this level should have the title of Professional Geologist (PGeo); or equivalent.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As a member of a team within a TOBIN department and through mentoring with senior members of staff within TOBIN, the Project Hydrogeologist will be required to undertake the following duties:

  • Where directed by the Project Manager, liaise and meet with Clients to ensure delivery of the required environmental reports, surveys and associated outputs.
  • Organising field surveys, liaising with clients and landowners, and undertaking fieldwork under the direction of more senior specialists, if required.
  • Procurement of Site Investigations and Site Surveys from third parties.
  • Review documents and drawings.
  • Preparation and review of environmental reports.
  • Preparation of relevant chapters of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs)/Planning & Environmental Consideration Reports (PECRs) and relevant sections of Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screenings/Natura Impact Statements (NISs).
  • Direct liaison with peer reviewers, legal reviewers, clients etc. to agree and finalise deliverables to the requisite standard.
  • Preparation and attendance at Open Days/Evenings and Public Consultation Events.
  • Assisting our Project Managers in the preparation of tender responses.
  • Take instruction from the Line Manager (and, where appropriate, the relevant Project Manager and senior members of the project teams).
  • Maintain CPD Plan and Register.
  • Meet agreed Performance Appraisal Goals.

The Skills Required of a Project Hydrogeologist:

  • Excellent written and verbal (English) communication and strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong fieldwork ability and surveying skills.
  • Strong Site Investigation skills including borehole specification and logging trial holes (BS5930).
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Proficient in GIS software packages such as QGIS, ArcGIS, ArcCollector and MapInfo.
  • For specialists, a working knowledge of relevant software packages such as AquiferTest, Modflow, LandSim, P20 and other similar and relevant packages.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
