In some very welcomed news for Galway and indeed the broader western region, the home of Connacht Rugby is set to undergo some significant infrastructural redevelopment at their home on College Road, Galway. Having first opened its doors in 1926, the current Sportsground venue has found itself out-grown by the emergence of Connacht Rugby as a key player in the sporting and social community in the West. As explained by Connacht Rugby CEO Willie Ruane, the Sportsground Redevelopment Plan is a ‘significant statement’ for both the team and indeed the region as a whole.
The plans for this historic sporting venue will include for a new stadium with capacity for 12,000 spectators. In addition to this, the project will also include for a high-performance centre and a new racing track for the Irish Greyhound Board.
As Technical Advisor to Connacht Rugby, TOBIN Consulting Engineers and our partners, Chapman Architects, are very proud to play our part in this significantly important development for the region.
