John holds the position of Project Ecologist in TOBIN’s Environmental and Planning section. He has a degree in Field Biology with Wildlife Tourism from the Institute of Technology, Tralee. John has several years of experience working mainly in the areas of Environmental assessment and surveying and he also has experience monitoring ecologically sensitive areas (including breeding Hen Harrier areas) and has been involved with invasive species removal.

Since joining TOBIN in 2019, John has worked on a range of projects carrying out a variety of surveys including habitats, mammal and bat assessments. However, he has mainly been focused on ornithological surveys and has been involved with the planning and implantation of winter and breeding bird surveys associated largely with proposed wind farms or other large-scale infrastructure developments.

John’s experience also includes report writing where he has been the author of many TOBIN reports including Appropriate Assessment Screening reports (AA screenings), Natura Impact Statements (NIS), Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR) and Ecological Management Plans. He is also highly proficient with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) packages and has been responsible for the production of high-quality, accurate maps for many different projects.

In his free time, John is a keen Irish wildlife photographer.
